Stretch Film – Machine application Manual stretch film application is physically demanding and it is difficult to attain optimum stretch and optimum wrap efficiency by hand. It is also a labour intensive operation. For these reasons high output environments often require automated stretch film application machinery. Stretch Film for use in machines is available in long length rolls for both Core Brake and Power Pre-stretch applicators. 33 Stretch Film SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE ABRASIVES SINGLE SIDED TAPES PACKAGING ADHESIVES DOUBLE COATED TAPES A thin clear polymer film of several layers which is applied in overlapping wraps around boxed and/or palletised goods. The film is stretched either manually or by machine as it is applied in order to elastically draw the items together. The inner surface of the film is slightly tacky enabling the layers to stick to each other. Provides a water and damage resistant surface and consolidates several items into one securely wrapped consignment. Virtually all stretch film used in the U.K. is produced by extruding molten polymer through an annular die with a cold air blast in the centre - somewhat similar to blowing a huge bubble. The resulting ‘blown’ film has excellent multi-directional strength and puncture resistance. There are several types available: Blown Hand Film Rolls designed to be applied by hand. The rolls come in the standard width of 400mm. Rolls are 300m long and, after stretching, yield around 350m of film. Standard thicknesses are; 9µ - Light duty, low weight goods 20µ - General purpose wrapping and palletising 35µ - Heavy duty, high weight packing e.g. Tiles, Bricks Pallet Top Covers A filmic ‘lid’ that covers the top of a pallet and extends 25mm or so down the sides. It is held in place by an overwrap of stretch film. Useful to protect goods from overhead contamination (rain, dust, birds) when goods are stored outside. Available to fit all standard pallet sizes. Variants: Black Opaque film disguises valuable or sensitive items, protects contents from sunlight. Extended core Oversized cardboard core ends act as handles removing the need to use a dispenser.
