36 Heat Shrink Film ABRASIVES SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE SINGLE SIDED TAPES PACKAGING ADHESIVES DOUBLE COATED TAPES High quality clear and tinted wrapping films for encapsulation and collation of assorted products. May be heat shrunk to fit almost any shape, regardless of how irregular, using a heated tunnel or hot air gun. The film acts as a protective layer and often improves the presentation of the product. PVC Heat Shrink Films The original high gloss shrink film giving the best overall presentation. The film has extremely good clarity and very low haze. It will shrink at relatively low temperatures, minimising energy costs. PVC film is available in both biaxial and unidirectional shrink formats and may be shrunk to between 90% and 60% of its original size. PVC films have a maximum shelf life of 60 days and should be stored at temperatures below 25C and away from direct sunlight. Food suitability certificates are available on request. Polyolefin Heat Shrink Films Polyethylene/Polyethylene and Polyethylene/Polypropylene multi-layer engineered films. These films are an alternative to conventional food grade PVC having the advantage of much better temperature tolerance – they do not require refrigerated transport and cool warehouse storage. The films have good lay flat properties, are more dimensionally stable, and will work on virtually all kinds of machine from manual to high speed automatic. Polyvinylchloride or Polyolefin? • PVC does not function on automatic machines • PVC works faster on chamber machines • POF is more economical in material • POF is more likely to work on both old and new machines • POF tends to be cheaper per m 2 than PVC • PVC has a poorer environmental image • PVC generally gives a better product presentation There is no simple answer and every application needs to be assessed separately.
